High resolution imaging and lithography with hard x rays using parabolic compound refractive lenses
نویسندگان
چکیده
Parabolic compound refractive lenses are high quality optical components for hard x rays. They are particularly suited for full field imaging, with applications in microscopy and x-ray lithography. Taking advantage of the large penetration depth of hard x rays, the interior of opaque samples can be imaged with submicrometer resolution. To obtain the three-dimensional structure of a sample, microscopy is combined with tomographic techniques. In a first hard x-ray lithography experiment, parabolic compound refractive lenses have been used to project the reduced image of a lithography mask onto a resist. Future developments are discussed. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1445827#

Refractive and diffractive X-ray optical elements
The planar microelectronics technology, involving lithography and highly anisotropic plasma etching techniques, allows manufacturing high quality refractive and diffractive lenses, which may be used in hard X-ray microprobe and microscopy applications. These silicon lenses are mechanically robust and can withstand high heat load of the white Xray beam at third generation synchrotron radiation s...
متن کاملThe role of single element errors in planar parabolic compound refractive lenses.
The propagation of X-rays through a compound refractive lens (CRL) with imperfect CRL elements is investigated. The trajectories of random rays within the geometrical optics regime are calculated in one plane using Monte Carlo methods. Three different lenses were simulated: Be, Al and Ni lenses designed for photon energies of 20 keV, 60 keV and 175 keV, respectively. The results show that while...
متن کاملRefractive lenses as a beam diagnostics tool for high-energy synchrotron radiation
Parabolic compound refractive lenses (CRLs) for hard X rays have been used to image the electron beam at undulator and bending-magnet beamlines at the ESRF. The measurements yield the shape and size of the synchrotron radiation source, and show that CRLs with paraboloid surface shape can be used as a beam diagnostics tool at highenergy electron storage rings. The optical resolution of the imagi...
متن کاملAberration-free x-ray lenses made of silicon
Brilliant beams of hard x-rays, with geometrical cross-sections below 50×50 nm, are a standard research tool for synchrotron users. With the advent of lower emittance sources, such as NSLSII, Petra III and Max IV, and planned upgraded lattices, such as APS-2, SPING8-II, ESRF II and DLS II, nanofocusing optics operating in transmission mode will become more competitive than they are currently. I...
متن کاملA planar parabolic refractive nickel lens for high-energy X-rays
A compound refractive lens made of nickel and designed for focusing high-energy synchrotron X-rays is presented. The lens consists of 600 parabolic grooves and focuses X-rays in one plane only (planar lens). The lenses made and investigated by us earlier exhibited low transmission and irregularities in the focused beam profile. Since then, improvements in lens manufacturing technology have been...
